34073 249 Squadron, SR Battle of Britain Class
A preserved SR Battle of Britain Class 4-6-2 Pacific, built at Brighton Works in 1948. Withdrawn from British Railways service in June 1964. The 199th locomotive to leave Woodham Brothers' scrapyard at Barry, South Wales, departing for preservation in 1988.
249 Squadron initially went to the East Lancashire Railway before moving to Carnforth, where she currently serves as a spares source for the main-line certified classmate 34067 Tangmere. She is considered a long-term restoration candidate.
Last recorded as based at West Coast Railways, Carnforth. Operating status: Parts donor / stored.

Notable history
34073 249 Squadron was built at Brighton Works in 1948 and withdrawn from BR service in June 1964, subsequently moved to Woodham Brothers' scrapyard at Barry where she was the 199th locomotive to leave the yard for preservation in 1988. Initially moved to the East Lancashire Railway, she was later transferred to Carnforth where she provides a source of spares for main-line certified classmate 34067 Tangmere. She remains at Carnforth as a long-term candidate for restoration.
