Notable history

34105 Swanage was built at Brighton Works in 1950, one of the final batch of West Country class locomotives, unrebuilt and retaining original Bulleid configuration. Withdrawn from British Railways service in 1967 — one of the last West Country withdrawals — and rescued from Barry scrapyard in 1984. The locomotive carries the name of the Dorset coastal town that is home to the Swanage Railway where she is based — a pleasing correspondence between locomotive name and heritage railway home.
