34028 Eddystone, SR West Country Class
A preserved SR West Country Class 4-6-2 Pacific, built at Brighton Works in 1946 as SR No. 21C128. Rebuilt by British Railways. Withdrawn from British Railways service in 1966. Rescued from Woodham Brothers' scrapyard at Barry, South Wales and acquired for preservation in 1982.
Eddystone is owned and operated by Southern Locomotives Ltd, overhauled at their Herston Works base at the Swanage Railway. In October 2024 SLL announced she would be fitted for regular main-line operation, making her debut on the national network in 2025 as the first of SLL's Bulleid fleet to operate on the mainline.
Last recorded as based at the Swanage Railway, owned by Southern Locomotives Ltd. Operating status: Main-line certified (from 2025). Current livery: BR Brunswick green.

Notable history
34028 Eddystone was built at Brighton Works in 1946 as SR No. 21C128, allocated to Ramsgate for Kent coast expresses including services to Victoria. Rebuilt at Eastleigh and withdrawn from British Railways in 1966, she was rescued from Woodham Brothers' scrapyard at Barry and acquired by Southern Locomotives Ltd. After restoration at SLL's Herston Works at the Swanage Railway, she entered heritage railway service and gained main-line certification. In October 2024 SLL announced she would be fitted for regular main-line working, making her debut on the mainline in 2025 — the first of SLL's fleet to operate regularly in main-line certified condition.
