35022 Holland America Line, SR Merchant Navy Class

A preserved SR Merchant Navy Class 4-6-2 Pacific, built at Eastleigh Works in 1948. Withdrawn from British Railways service in 1964. Rescued from Woodham Brothers' scrapyard at Barry, South Wales in 1986.

35022 Holland America Line was the locomotive the Merchant Navy Locomotive Preservation Society originally intended to save in 1967 — but it reached Barry before they could act, leading them to purchase 35028 Clan Line instead. Currently owned by Icons of Steam (Jeremy Hosking) and stored awaiting restoration.

Last recorded as stored at the Crewe Heritage Centre, owned by Icons of Steam (Jeremy Hosking). Operating status: Awaiting restoration.

35022 Holland America Line was the locomotive the Merchant Navy Locomotive Preservation Society originally wanted to preserve in 1967, but it was sent to Woodham Brothers' scrapyard at Barry before they could purchase it — leading them to buy classmate 35028 Clan Line instead. 35022 was eventually rescued from Barry in 1986 and is now owned by Icons of Steam (Jeremy Hosking), stored at the Crewe Heritage Centre awaiting restoration.
