7029 Clun Castle, GWR Castle Class

A preserved GWR Castle Class 4-6-0, built at Swindon Works in May 1950 — the last Castle class locomotive ever built — and withdrawn from British Railways service in November 1965, the last Castle in BR service. Two significant distinctions make 7029 Clun Castle unique among the eight preserved Castle class locomotives.

7029 Clun Castle is operated by Vintage Trains at Tyseley Locomotive Works and has been one of the most active main-line certified Castle class locomotives in preservation, hauling regular charter trains across the national network from Birmingham. The combination of last-built and last-in-service status gives her a particular historical significance within the class.
