60008 Dwight D. Eisenhower, LNER A4 Class

A preserved LNER A4 Class streamlined 4-6-2 Pacific, built at Doncaster Works in 1937 as LNER No. 4496 Golden Shuttle. Renamed Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1945 in honour of the Allied Supreme Commander. Withdrawn from British Railways service in 1963 and donated to the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA.

60008 Dwight D. Eisenhower is one of two A4 Pacifics held by North American museums (alongside 60010 Dominion of Canada at Exporail in Quebec). In October 2012 both North American A4s were repatriated to Britain on loan for the Great Gathering at the National Railway Museum — the first time all six surviving A4s had been assembled together. It returned to the National Railroad Museum at Green Bay following the event. Not currently in the United Kingdom.
