5596 Bahamas, LMS Jubilee Class

A preserved LMS Jubilee Class 4-6-0, built at Crewe Works in 1934 to Sir William Stanier's design for express passenger work on the LMS Midland Main Line and West Coast Main Line. Withdrawn from British Railways service in 1966. Preserved directly without passing through Barry scrapyard.

5596 Bahamas is one of only two Jubilee class locomotives fitted with a double chimney and modified draughting arrangement, applied in 1961 as an experiment in improving steaming performance — the other being classmate 5593 Kolhapur. This modification makes both locomotives visually and acoustically distinctive from the standard Jubilee. Owned by the Bahamas Locomotive Society and currently under overhaul at Tyseley Locomotive Works.

Last recorded as under overhaul at Tyseley Locomotive Works, owned by the Bahamas Locomotive Society. Operating status: Under restoration. Current livery: LMS Crimson Lake.
