928 Stowe, SR Schools Class (Bluebell Railway)
A preserved SR Schools Class 4-4-0 express passenger locomotive, built at Eastleigh Works in December 1934. Withdrawn from British Railways service in November 1962 and immediately preserved — initially by Stowe School itself, the Buckinghamshire public school after which the locomotive was named. Owned by the Maunsell Locomotive Society and based at the Bluebell Railway, currently under restoration.
30928 Stowe is one of three preserved Schools class locomotives, the only class of 4-4-0 tender engines preserved from Southern Railway practice.
Last recorded as based at the Bluebell Railway, owned by the Maunsell Locomotive Society. Operating status: Under restoration. Current livery: SR malachite green.

Notable history
928 Stowe was completed at Eastleigh in December 1934 and worked the Hastings line and other Southern restricted-gauge routes through the SR and BR eras. Withdrawn from Brighton in November 1962, the engine was privately preserved by Stowe School (the school whose name it carries). It has appeared periodically in working order at the Bluebell Railway in SR Maunsell olive green livery.
