926 Repton, SR Schools Class (NYMR)

A preserved SR Schools Class 4-4-0 express passenger locomotive, built at Eastleigh Works in November 1934 to Richard Maunsell's design. Withdrawn from British Railways service in December 1962. Preserved directly from BR service without passing through Barry scrapyard.

30926 Repton worked the Hastings line and other Southern restricted-gauge routes, named after Repton School in Derbyshire. After preservation it spent many years at the Steamtown museum at Bellows Falls, Vermont, USA, before repatriation to Britain and subsequent acquisition by the North Yorkshire Moors Railway where it has been restored to working order.

Last recorded as based at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, owned by the NYMR. Operating status: Heritage railway service / cycles. Current livery: SR malachite green.

Notable history

926 Repton was completed at Eastleigh in November 1934 and worked the Hastings line and other Southern restricted-gauge routes through to BR withdrawal in December 1962. Privately preserved on withdrawal, the engine was sold to the Cape Breton Steam Railway in Canada in 1969, operating in North America for twenty years. Returned to the United Kingdom in 1989, the engine now operates on the NYMR.
