45212, LMS Stanier Black Five (NYMR)
A preserved LMS Stanier Black Five 4-6-0, built by Armstrong Whitworth in 1935 to Sir William Stanier's design — one of several hundred Black Fives built by outside contractors rather than LMS works. Withdrawn from British Railways service in August 1968, among the last steam locomotives in BR service, based at Lostock Hall shed through the final weeks of BR steam. Preserved directly from BR.
45212 worked the final days of BR main-line steam in August 1968 from Lostock Hall, one of the last sheds to operate steam traction. Owned and operated by Riley and Son Engineering, currently withdrawn for overhaul.

Notable history
45212 was one of the LMS Black Fives that worked the very last days of British Railways main-line steam in August 1968, surviving at Lostock Hall right through to the close of BR steam. Acquired immediately for preservation, the engine has been a long-resident NYMR working engine.
