4115, GWR 5101 Class Large Prairie

One of the Barry survivors, but not a preserved locomotive in the ordinary sense. The Great Western Society bought it for Didcot in 2010 specifically as a donor for new-build projects, and it gave up its front-end extension frames and cylinder sub-assembly, six of its eight 5ft 8in driving wheels, frame stays, footplate supports, brake hangers, the vacuum brake cylinder and reservoir, and the weighshaft and bearings, all to the 4700 class 2-8-0 being built as No. 4709.

What remained of the frames was scrapped at Tyseley in 2016, so 4115 no longer exists. It is recorded here because its parts are what made 4709 possible, and it is deliberately excluded from the class's survivor count.
