6998 Burton Agnes Hall, GWR Modified Hall Class
A preserved gwr 6959 modified hall class locomotive, built in 1949. Rescued from Woodham Brothers' scrapyard at Barry, South Wales.
Built at Swindon in January 1949 to GWR design under BR. Initially allocated to Cardiff. Withdrawn from BR service in 1966 and acquired directly by the Great Western Society — the only Modified Hall not to pass through Woodham Brothers' Barry scrapyard. Moved to Didcot Railway Centre in 1967. A regular main-line performer through the 1980s and 1990s, notably during the GWR 150 celebrations in 1985. Withdrawn from operation in 1996 awaiting overhaul; static exhibit since.
Last recorded as based at Didcot Railway Centre, owned by Great Western Society. Operating status: Static exhibit / awaiting overhaul. Current livery: BR Brunswick green.
