Adtranz Derby

About

'Adtranz Derby' refers to the Litchurch Lane Carriage Works at Derby during its ownership by ADtranz (ABB Daimler-Benz Transportation, later DaimlerChrysler Rail Systems) from 1 January 1996 until acquisition by Bombardier on 1 May 2001. The works was inherited from ABB Transportation (which had bought it from BREL in 1989) and continued as a major UK rolling-stock manufacturing site.

Adtranz Derby's principal products in this five-year period included the Class 323 EMU completion, the Class 390 'Pendolino' tilting EMU body shells (with mechanical equipment from Alstom-Fiat), the Class 220/221 Voyager DMUs, and several variants of the early Networker Express and Turbostar families.

The works passed to Bombardier in May 2001 and was rebranded Bombardier Derby. It is now Alstom Derby following the acquisition of Bombardier Transportation by Alstom in 2021.
