British Rail Class 168/2

The Class 168/2 is a subclass of the Chiltern Railways Class 168 Clubman fleet, comprising six four-car sets (168214–168219) built by Bombardier Transportation at Derby in 2003–04 as part of the third batch of Clubman deliveries. The 168/2 sets were built to a four-car formation from new rather than the three-car arrangement of the earlier 168/0 and 168/1 batches, reflecting the growing demand on Chiltern's Marylebone–Birmingham services as the franchise's market share increased.

The mechanical and electrical specification is identical to the rest of the Class 168 fleet — MTU 6R 183TD13H engines, Voith hydraulic transmission, 100 mph maximum speed, and full air conditioning. For full history, design background, and fleet information, see the main Class 168 Clubman entry.

Design and development

Built to the same Turbostar platform as the rest of the Class 168 fleet, the 168/2 sets were constructed as four-car formations from new to meet growing demand on Chiltern's Marylebone–Birmingham services. See main Class 168 Clubman entry for full detail.
