Alstom
Biography
Alstom Transport is a French-headquartered multinational rail-traction manufacturer, the successor through several mergers of GEC Traction (UK) and Alsthom (France). Its predecessor GEC-Alsthom was formed in 1989; the firm rebranded as Alstom in 1998. Alstom acquired Bombardier Transportation in 2021, in which year it inherited the Derby Litchurch Lane works.
UK products bearing Alstom's name include the Class 390 'Pendolino' tilting trains for the West Coast Main Line, several variants of the Coradia Iridiom and Coradia Lint diesel multiple-units, and the upcoming Class 207, 234 and Aventra-derived classes. The firm holds heavy-overhaul contracts at Crewe and Widnes, and from 2024 is the principal UK rolling stock manufacturer.
