5197, USATC S160 2-8-0

A USATC S160 2-8-0 in operational service on the Churnet Valley Railway in Staffordshire.

5197 was built at the Lima Locomotive Works in Lima, Ohio, in 1945, towards the end of S160 production. It survived in service abroad until it was bought from scrap in 1995 and shipped back to the United Kingdom for restoration. The work was carried out at the Llangollen Railway and the engine returned to traffic in 1998, since when it has worked on a number of British heritage railways. It is currently resident at the Churnet Valley Railway.
