A preserved GWR King Class 4-6-0, built at Swindon Works in 1930. Withdrawn from British Railways service in 1962. Rescued from Woodham Brothers' scrapyard at Barry, South Wales — one of only three King class locomotives to survive.

6024 King Edward I is owned by the 6024 Preservation Society and has operated on the main line in preservation. Currently under restoration at Locomotive Services Ltd, Crewe.

Notable history

6024 King Edward I was built at Swindon Works in 1930. Withdrawn in 1962 and rescued from Woodham Brothers' scrapyard at Barry — one of only three surviving King class locomotives. Owned by the 6024 Preservation Society and restored to working order, it has operated on both heritage railways and the national main line in preservation. Currently under restoration at Crewe (Locomotive Services Ltd).
