LNER EB2 Class

The LNER EB2 Class refers to a further group of electric locomotives associated with the North Eastern Railway's electrification programme and the LNER's continuation of it, likely representing a development or variant of the EB1 Class electric mineral locomotive design used on the Newport–Shildon electrification. The EB2 designation covers electric traction work on the NER/LNER's 1,500 V DC electrified routes in County Durham, where the mineral and coal traffic had justified the overhead electrification investment in the 1910s.

The precise details of the EB2 Class designation are less well documented than the earlier EB1 — it may refer to a specific variant build or to locomotives reclassified under the LNER's systematic fleet classification, reflecting either detail differences from the EB1 specification or modifications made during the operational life of the Newport–Shildon electrification before its abandonment in 1935.
