Caf/Siemens (Llanwern and overseas)

About

'Caf/Siemens' is used for the joint or coordinated UK manufacturing operations of CAF (Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles) of Spain and Siemens Mobility of Germany. CAF opened a new UK rolling-stock factory at Llanwern, near Newport in south Wales, on 26 September 2018, the first new UK rolling stock plant since BREL's privatisation in 1989.

The Llanwern factory builds modern DMU and EMU rolling stock for British operators, including the Class 195 and Class 331 Civity DMU/EMU families for Northern Trains, the Class 397 'Civity' for TransPennine Express, the Class 332 successor units for Heathrow Express and various other modern UK rolling-stock contracts. Siemens supplies traction electrical equipment for some shared CAF-Siemens contracts. Siemens itself does not have a UK rolling-stock manufacturing site (its UK rolling stock is built in Krefeld and Wegberg-Wildenrath, Germany).
