Alstom, Valencia

Alstom Valencia — the former MACOSA and Meinfesa works at Albuixech near Valencia in Spain — is one of Alstom's principal European rolling stock manufacturing centres, producing electric and diesel multiple units for Spanish, British, and other European operators as part of Alstom's Coradia and Pendolino product families. The Valencia works entered the Alstom group through GEC-Alsthom's Spanish acquisitions in the early 1990s and has supplied components and complete vehicles to British train operating companies as part of international manufacturing programmes.

For the British market the Valencia works has contributed to several significant orders, including elements of the Class 458 Juniper EMU fleet for South West Trains and components of other Coradia-platform vehicles. The works illustrates the fundamentally international character of modern rolling stock manufacturing: a single fleet delivered to a British train operator may incorporate bodywork from Spain, traction equipment from France, bogies from Germany, and interior fittings from suppliers across Europe, assembled and tested at whichever Alstom facility has the appropriate capacity and capability.
