2807, GWR 2800 Class
A preserved GWR 2800 Class 2-8-0 heavy freight locomotive, built at Swindon Works in 1905 — the third of G. J. Churchward's revolutionary 2-8-0 class, the first British 2-8-0 heavy freight design and the progenitor of the heavy freight 2-8-0 wheel arrangement that subsequently became standard on British railways. As one of the earliest surviving examples of the class, 2807 is the oldest preserved GWR steam locomotive.
2807 is preserved and operated by the Cotswold Steam Preservation Society at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway, where it works regularly in heritage railway service. Its survival from 1905 gives it a particular historical value as a representative of Churchward's earliest major freight design.
