256 Glen Douglas, NBR Glen Class 4-4-0

A preserved North British Railway Glen Class 4-4-0 express passenger locomotive, built at Cowlairs Works, Glasgow in 1913 as one of W. P. Reid's Glen class — the principal NBR express passenger 4-4-0 type, named after Scottish glens. Preserved by Glasgow Museums and displayed at the Riverside Museum, Glasgow.

256 Glen Douglas is named after the glen in Argyll and the principal surviving example of North British Railway locomotive practice — a tradition that produced fast, reliable 4-4-0 express engines for the demanding Scottish routes over steep gradients and through challenging terrain. Displayed in NBR passenger brown livery at the Riverside Museum alongside Caledonian Railway No. 123 as a complementary exhibit of the two great competing Scottish pre-Grouping railways.
