The Ffestiniog Railway Manning Wardle locomotive on the FR is Lyd (No. 138), a 2-6-2T narrow-gauge locomotive built by Manning Wardle & Co. of Leeds originally for the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway in Devon in 1898, subsequently acquired by the Festiniog Railway and now operated as part of the FR's heritage fleet. The Manning Wardle was one of the celebrated builders of narrow-gauge industrial and light railway locomotives, and Lyd gives the FR a representative of the Manning Wardle narrow-gauge tradition alongside its more famous George England and Double Fairlie locomotives.

Lyd is named after the River Lyd in Devon, continuing the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway's tradition of naming locomotives after West Country rivers, and its presence on the FR connects the two great narrow-gauge passenger railways of the Victorian era — the Ffestiniog in North Wales and the Lynton and Barnstaple in North Devon.
