The Caledonian Single refers to the Caledonian Railway's celebrated exhibition and express single-driver locomotive No. 123 — see the main CR 123 Exhibition Single entry for the complete history of this famous locomotive. No. 123 was built in 1886 by Neilson & Co. of Glasgow for display at the Edinburgh International Exhibition of that year, subsequently entering Caledonian Railway express service and taking a celebrated part in the Race to the North of 1888. It is preserved in full working order at the Riverside Museum, Glasgow.
