123, Caledonian Railway 4-2-2 Single

A preserved Caledonian Railway 4-2-2 Single express passenger locomotive, built by Neilson and Company at Glasgow in 1886 as a single example built specifically for display at the Edinburgh International Exhibition of 1886 — one of the few British locomotives constructed expressly as an exhibition piece rather than for service. Preserved by Glasgow Museums and displayed at the Riverside Museum, Glasgow.

No. 123 participated in the 1888 Races to the North, competing for the Caledonian Railway on the section of the West Coast route between Carlisle and Edinburgh. Its combination of exhibition origins, Races participation, and survival in Caledonian blue livery makes it one of the most significant pre-Grouping locomotives in Scottish preservation. One of the oldest preserved express locomotives in Britain.
