The BR Standard Class 3MT 2-6-2T (82xxx series) was a tank engine version of the BR Standard Class 3MT mixed-traffic locomotive programme, designed under Robert Riddles at the newly nationalised British Railways and introduced from 1952. The 2-6-2T Prairie tank configuration gave the 3MT tank engine excellent capability for suburban and branch passenger working, combining good acceleration from stops with adequate speed for semi-fast services.
