90733, WD Austerity 2-8-0 (ex-Swedish State Railways)

A WD Austerity 2-8-0 with one of the more unusual histories in British preservation, now on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.

Built in 1943 to the Riddles WD Austerity design for heavy wartime freight work, 90733 was sold to the Swedish State Railways (SJ) after the war as their Class G11 No. 1931. It spent its working life in Swedish service and was withdrawn there. In 1973 the engine was repatriated to the UK with several of its sister Austerities and progressively restored to British 2-8-0 form, taking the BR number 90733 (a number never carried in BR service, as the BR 90000 Austerity batch had ended at 90732).

The Swedish-service history is the engine's defining story: an Austerity built for wartime austerity service that ended up running on Swedish iron-ore traffic before coming home as a heritage railway machine.
