63395, NER Class T2 (LNER Q6) 0-8-0
Notable history
Completed by the North Eastern Railway at Darlington North Road Works on 2 December 1918 as class T2 No. 2238, one of eight finished that year. Vincent Raven's T2 was a development of the earlier T and T1 designs; 120 were built between 1913 and 1921, seventy at Darlington and fifty by Armstrong Whitworth. After running-in at Gateshead it went to Blaydon, where it stayed for twenty-five years.
The North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group bought it on 1 April 1968 and has owned it since. It is based on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and was repainted into North Eastern livery as 2238 to mark its centenary.
