3205, GWR 2251 Class (Collett Goods)

Built by the Great Western in 1946 and the only survivor of the 120-strong 2251 class, Collett's design for the lightly laid Welsh lines, brought in to replace the ageing engines the GWR inherited from the Welsh companies at the 1923 grouping. Allocated first to Gloucester, it spent its early years around Gloucester, Cheltenham and Worcester, and later worked over former Somerset and Dorset metals.

Withdrawn in 1965, it was bought that year by the 2251 Fund and became the second locomotive to arrive at Buckfastleigh for preservation. It went to the West Somerset Railway in 1987 and returned to the South Devon Railway in 1998. The 2251 Locomotive Fund has owned it throughout; in October 2023 the South Devon Railway became its custodian under a fifty-year agreement.

Ran on the Severn Valley, West Somerset and Dart Valley lines in preservation. Withdrawn in 2017 and its boiler certificate expired in 2020; stored awaiting overhaul.
