Notable history
Built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia in 1930, works number 61269, for the Eastern Province Cement Company at Port Elizabeth in South Africa, where it spent its whole working life hauling limestone. The design followed the South African Railways NG10 class of 1916 with detail differences; as built it was an outside-framed engine with 13.5 by 18 inch cylinders and three-foot coupled wheels, weighing about 50.5 tons in working order.
In 1973 it ran away driverless, derailed and was wrecked. South African insurers wrote it off, and the Brecon Mountain Railway bought the remains as salvage and shipped them to Liverpool as deck cargo. Rebuilt in Wales between 1993 and 1997, it now weighs 47 tons and handles the railway's heaviest trains up to Torpantau.
