Darlington Locomotive Works
The home of the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust at Darlington, where 60163 Tornado was built and where the new Peppercorn P2, No. 2007 Prince of Wales, is under construction. A working engineering site rather than a visitor attraction.
The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust built 60163 Tornado at Darlington between 1994 and 2008, the first new main-line steam locomotive built in Britain for almost fifty years. For more than twenty-five years the trust worked from the former carriage works on Hopetown Lane.
In 2023 it moved to a purpose-built works on Bonomi Way, taking the P2 project with it. The new shed holds up to four large Pacific or Mikado locomotives and has inspection pits, a high-pressure water supply, machine shops and spares storage. A new connection to the main line is being built to allow locomotives to leave the works under their own power.

Visitor information
A working engineering site with no general public access, though the trust holds open days. Hopetown Darlington, the town's railway museum, is a separate and publicly open attraction nearby.
