The Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway Bagnall locomotive is No. 19 Monarch, a 0-4-4-0T Fairlie-type double-bogie locomotive built by W.G. Bagnall Ltd of Stafford in 1953 for industrial use, subsequently acquired by the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway where it gives the 2 ft 6 in gauge heritage line a locomotive of unusual configuration alongside the railway's Beyer Peacock originals and international acquisitions. Monarch's Fairlie-type articulated configuration — two powered bogies under a single boiler — on a British-built 1950s industrial locomotive is a rarity, and its preservation on the W&LLR connects the Fairlie articulated tradition to the industrial locomotive world as well as the narrow-gauge passenger railway context.
