NER Class X1 [LNER T1 subclass]
The NER Class X1 was a minor development variant of the NER Class X 4-8-0T heavy hump shunting locomotive, representing detail modifications applied to a subsequent build of the same basic design. Both the Class X and X1 were designated together as LNER T1 after the 1923 Grouping. See the main NER Class X / LNER T1 entry for the complete history of the Tyne Dock hump shunters, their exceptional tractive effort specification, and their long service at one of the world's busiest coal export staithes. None was preserved.
