NER Class V1 [LNER C7 subclass]
The NER Class V1 was a subclass of the celebrated Z Class (Class V/09) Atlantics, representing detail variations or a specific build batch within Raven's three-cylinder superheated 4-4-2 Atlantic programme for the North Eastern Railway. See the main NER Class V/09 / LNER C7 Z Class entry for the full history of Raven's three-cylinder Atlantics, their performance on the East Coast Main Line, and their significance as the NER's finest express locomotive class.
Under the LNER after the 1923 Grouping, both the V/09 and V1 variants were classified together as LNER C7. None of the C7 class in any variant was preserved.
