lnwr-precedent

The LNWR Precedent Class is covered in the main LNWR Precedent Class entry — Francis Webb's celebrated 2-4-0 express passenger class that gave the LNWR some of its finest performances in the Victorian era, including the dramatic racing of the 1895 Race to the North. The most famous survivor is No. 790 Hardwicke, preserved at the National Railway Museum, York, which covered the Crewe–Carlisle section in the 1895 races at record-breaking speeds. See the main entry for full details.
