The BR Class 86 was a series of 100 Bo-Bo 25 kV AC electric locomotives built by BREL at Doncaster and English Electric at Vulcan Foundry between 1965 and 1966, representing the first production AC electric fleet following the five pilot-scheme types, and the class that effectively standardised WCML electric locomotive design for the following two decades — see the main BR Class 86 entry for full details. The Class 86 gave BR its most numerous and versatile WCML electric locomotive, working passenger and freight on the WCML's electrified routes from Euston to Glasgow for over three decades. Two examples are preserved: 86259 Les Ross and 86401 Northern Belle.
