class-77-em2

The BR Class 77 EM2 was a series of Co-Co electric locomotives built for the Woodhead Route's 1,500 V DC overhead electrification, designed for the heavier and faster express passenger services on the Manchester–Sheffield route — see the main BR Class 77 EM2 / LNER EM2 entry for the full history of these express electrics, which gave the Woodhead Route its most celebrated motive power. The EM2s were sold to the Netherlands (Dutch Railways, NS) after the Woodhead Route's freight-only relegation in 1970, where they gave further service as Dutch Class 1500. One example, 27000 Electra, was repatriated and is preserved at the National Railway Museum, York.
