General Motors EMD / Alstom

'General Motors EMD / Alstom' is used in this encyclopedia for the partnership between General Motors' Electro-Motive Division (EMD, formerly La Grange, Illinois; afterwards Progress Rail) and Alstom for the BR Class 66 and Class 67 diesel-electric locomotives. Both classes use the EMD 710 prime mover (12-cylinder for the Class 66, 12-cylinder higher-rated for the Class 67) and were built at GM EMD's plant at London, Ontario or its successor Progress Rail facilities, with Alstom involvement on the European-market features.
