Edward Woods
Biography
Edward Woods (1814–1903) was a British civil and locomotive engineer who served as Engineer of the Liverpool & Manchester Railway from 1836 until the L&MR's amalgamation into the Grand Junction Railway in 1845. He worked closely with Robert Stephenson in this period.
Born at Liverpool on 26 May 1814, Woods was a pupil of John Cunningham of Liverpool. After leaving the L&MR he set up in private practice in London and worked on a wide range of railway, dock and mining schemes in Britain, France, Spain and South America. He was elected President of the Institution of Civil Engineers in 1886. He died at London on 14 June 1903.
