BR design team

'BR design team' is used in this encyclopedia as a generic attribution for diesel and electric locomotive classes designed by central British Railways engineering offices and not specifically attributable to a single Region or works. From the 1955 Modernisation Plan onward BR worked increasingly with private locomotive manufacturers as engineering partners, with the BR design team acting as specifier, integrator and (occasionally) co-designer of the running gear, control electronics and bodywork.
